Product Details

Before trail apps, there was the wooden signpost: camping this way, the lake that way, canoes and cabins down the path. A mother bear walks the trail with a cub riding in her pack basket, while a second cub stops to read the signs with the seriousness of a child who has just learned to.

Her bears are not cartoons. The humor comes from what they are doing, and the dappled autumn light is pure Sargent, laid in with quick, confident strokes.

About the Line

Marilynn Dwyer Mason was born and raised in southwest Montana and has drawn since childhood. She paints in pastel, watercolor, acrylic, oil, and pen and ink. Influenced by Philip Goodwin, John Singer Sargent, and Oliver Kemp, her work captures the nostalgia of early-twentieth-century outdoor life and the American West, including her Mason Bear series.

From her studio in Butte, Montana, her paintings are offered as giclée prints on canvas, hand stretched and set in birch bark and wild-harvested willow frames. Each frame is one of a kind.
