Product Details

Before groomed trails and heated grips, a snowmobile was a loud red machine you pointed at the woods and hoped for the best. Here a grizzly leans into the ride, Bear Claw painted along the side and a cub hanging on behind.

The title has two meanings, the machine's name and the bakery pastry, and both suit a bear on a sled. Dwyer Mason paints the flying powder the way Sargent painted water, in fast, broken strokes that read as motion.

About the Line

Marilynn Dwyer Mason was born and raised in southwest Montana and has drawn since childhood. She paints in pastel, watercolor, acrylic, oil, and pen and ink. Influenced by Philip Goodwin, John Singer Sargent, and Oliver Kemp, her work captures the nostalgia of early-twentieth-century outdoor life and the American West, including her Mason Bear series.

From her studio in Butte, Montana, her paintings are offered as giclée prints on canvas, hand stretched and set in birch bark and wild-harvested willow frames. Each frame is one of a kind.
