Product Details

The title winks at the mahogany runabouts that ruled American lakes between the wars, and the painting delivers the full fantasy: varnished deck, a pennant snapping at the bow, and a wake that fills half the canvas. Two grown bears ride behind the windshield, with cubs everywhere else.

Dwyer Mason paints boats the way the old sporting illustrators did, the hull carving hard and the water thrown up in white. The spray is loose and quick, and the faces are finished with care.

About the Line

Marilynn Dwyer Mason was born and raised in southwest Montana and has drawn since childhood. She paints in pastel, watercolor, acrylic, oil, and pen and ink. Influenced by Philip Goodwin, John Singer Sargent, and Oliver Kemp, her work captures the nostalgia of early-twentieth-century outdoor life and the American West, including her Mason Bear series.

From her studio in Butte, Montana, her paintings are offered as giclée prints on canvas, hand stretched and set in birch bark and wild-harvested willow frames. Each frame is one of a kind.
