Product Details

In a small town, the Fourth of July fireworks go up over the lake, and everyone finds a rock to watch from. Here the best rock belongs to a grizzly holding a full-size flag, with a cub beside her waving a small one.

The bear is upright and still, and gold bursts light the water in ripples of yellow and blue. It is patriotic in the plain, unironic way of an old calendar page, painted with bold shapes and quick strokes in the sky.

About the Line

Marilynn Dwyer Mason was born and raised in southwest Montana and has drawn since childhood. She paints in pastel, watercolor, acrylic, oil, and pen and ink. Influenced by Philip Goodwin, John Singer Sargent, and Oliver Kemp, her work captures the nostalgia of early-twentieth-century outdoor life and the American West, including her Mason Bear series.

From her studio in Butte, Montana, her paintings are offered as giclée prints on canvas, hand stretched and set in birch bark and wild-harvested willow frames. Each frame is one of a kind.
