The Pendleton Reserve Chimayo Rug in Earth is a hand-knotted wool rug inspired by Pendleton's stripe blankets. Narrow and wide horizontal stripes of sage green, gold, aubergine, brown, and terra-cotta run edge to edge, with thin lines of red woven through for extra warmth.

Design and Craftsmanship

Two gold bands near the middle carry a repeating geometric figure in aubergine and terra-cotta, and darker aubergine bands with a similar figure sit near each end. Rows of small squares, set like dotted lines, break up the stripes in between. The yarn is hand-spun New Zealand wool colored with Swiss Chrome dyes, then hand-knotted at about 80 knots per square inch. Because hand-spun yarn varies in thickness, each stripe takes the dye a little differently and shows a soft, blended color.

Sizes and Placement

This rug comes in a range of sizes, including runners, so the same stripe can run down a cabin hallway and anchor the living room. The muted greens and browns sit comfortably with log walls, stone fireplaces, and wood floors.
