Product Details

The fall is the funniest part of skating. On a frozen pond ringed with birch and spruce, one bear has gone down hard, a skate in the air and a red and gold scarf everywhere, while the rest of the family stands by in various states of concern.

It is the kind of north-country winter scene that filled calendars a century ago, painted in soft gray and violet with loose, cold brushwork in the trees. Calm to live with, and quietly funny.

About the Line

Marilynn Dwyer Mason was born and raised in southwest Montana and has drawn since childhood. She paints in pastel, watercolor, acrylic, oil, and pen and ink. Influenced by Philip Goodwin, John Singer Sargent, and Oliver Kemp, her work captures the nostalgia of early-twentieth-century outdoor life and the American West, including her Mason Bear series.

From her studio in Butte, Montana, her paintings are offered as giclée prints on canvas, hand stretched and set in birch bark and wild-harvested willow frames. Each frame is one of a kind.
